Reading Discussion Chapter 4

Q Now that you have become an expert on one dimension of the variations of deviance, we will start to compare and synthesize this academic research in order to draw some more sophisticated and interested conclusions! Go back and review all of the postings on the Article Summaries: Chapter 4. You should be able to gain a pretty solid understanding of each of the articles by reading over the multiple summaries and analyses. Please create a post that answers the following questions: All strain theories share the assumption that something social causes deviance (rather than a cause located purely within the individual). According to these articles, what social forces caused deviance? How do these examples help you understand the core ideas of this chapter? How do they connect? What can we learn about our deviance, and how our society shapes deviance from these texts? Please provide at least two substantial comments on your classmates' responses that seek to deepen the analysis or provide some other kind of connection. Try looking for answers that challenge what you thought before or make you think of something new! Your initial post and comments have the same due date. This assignment is graded "Complete/Incomplete", which means if you complete all of the tasks above (including the two classmate comments), you will get full credit for the assignment. On your grade page, assignments graded as "Complete" will be indicated with a checkmark; assignments graded "Incomplete" will be marked with an X mark.

According to the postings of Article 4 based on the readings "Durkheim's 'Suicide' in the Zombie Apocalypse" and “A General Strain Theory of Terrorism,” one can conclude that pressure of maintaining one’s culture, ethnicity, different norms of different societies, and pressures of social groups leads to deviance. The articles put stress on the strains of society that force a person to think negatively. Other people react differently to negativity; some commit suicide, and some become terrorists.
